The .40-.45 caliber Treso short starter is considered the standard. The handle is a 1-3/4″ diameter hardwood ball. Long starter is selected straight grain hardwood with a brass tip to prevent splitting. The button starter in the ball is solid brass and is 90 degrees from the long starter making it convenient to hold in one hand while the other starts the ball or bullet in the muzzle of the barrel. Both button and long starter tip are cupped to center the starter over the ball. Starters are dipped in hot linseed oil for a durable finish.
