Who We Are

On January 15, 1981, founder, Joe Williams, opened the doors of The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium, fulfilling his dream to turn his “hobby” into a livelihood.

Having repaired and shot muzzleloaders competitively since the mid-1950’s, this was the perfect business for him, especially since he had never met a stranger! He brought an encyclopedia full of knowledge which was freely shared with customers.

In 1982, Joe and Suzi were married and she joined The Gun Works, taking charge of office responsibilities and assisting with retail sales. Over time, a catalog was created and in 2000, the web site presence was introduced boosting both US and International sales.

For over 35 years, The Gun Works enjoyed both the West Coast gun show and rendezvous presence, bringing our “store” to the customers.

With Joe’s sudden passing January 15, 2020, pandemic turmoil and unstable supply chains, The Gun Works has weathered many challenges but through it all, our commitment to good customer service, quality products, fair prices and timely response to customer inquiries remains steadfast and unchanged.

Our knowledgeable staff is always available to offer sage advice, perform minor black powder gun repairs and share a laugh or two.

Joe’s legacy lives on!  Keep your powder dry!
